Christmas is celebrated on December 24 and 25, is one of the loveliest and biggest celebration of they year throughout the world. The Christmas season starts off four weeks before December 24, called the 'Advent' season. On the Advent wreath every Sunday another candle is lit, until all the four candles are lighting. During Christmas people of Christian religion commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. At church services the story of Jesus Christ is retold in form of nativity plays or reading the Bible.
Most people are on holiday and stay at home with their families on Christmas Eve. Days before Christmas some people send postcards to their friends or relatives. On the day of Christmas, family members gather to have a festive dinner. This usually consist of fish prepared in various forms, stuffed cabbage, poppy seed roll and many other delicacies. The menu might vary according to the local and family customs.
On Christmas Day or days before the actual day families set up the Christmas tree and put decorations on it, including fondant candies and the tree topper. Gifts are wrapped in nice-patterned wrapping papers and put under the tree. Depending on customs, the gifts are opened either on December 24 (UK & Europe customs) or on December 25 (USA) and it is told that it has brought the 'baby Jesus' (UK & EU) or the Santa Claus (USA) itself.
Christmas is time for slowing down, spending time with the family and to make people happy by giving them presents. It is also said that it is the holiday of love, bringing happiness to other people's lives.
